Compassionately Candid Counseling & Consultation LLC

About

Founded by Lindsey Bannish in 2024, Compassionately Candid Counseling & Consultation LLC is a private practice offering mental health counseling, rehabilitation counseling, and educational consultation services. When Lindsey founded Compassionately Candid, she wanted to find a name that encompassed her integrated approach and professional identity as a counselor...thus, the "compassionately candid" therapist was born.

Lindsey completed both a bachelors degree in neuroscience and a masters degree in rehabilitation counseling and disability studies before beginning her doctorate in counselor education and supervision. She earned her Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) accreditation in 2019, and has worked as a masters level mental health clinician since 2018. In 2023, she earned her National Counselor Certification (NCC), and is currently a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPCA) in the state of CT.

So, what does it mean to be a compassionately candid therapist

  • Direct Communication: They provide clear, straightforward feedback without sugarcoating the truth. They address issues and behaviors directly, but with a focus on constructive outcomes.

  • Empathy and Understanding: While being honest, they ensure their words are delivered with sensitivity. They understand the client’s feelings and perspectives, and they communicate in a way that shows they care about the client’s well-being.

  • Balanced Feedback: They balance positive reinforcement with constructive criticism. They acknowledge the client’s strengths and progress while also pointing out areas needing improvement.

  • Supportive Environment: They create a safe space where clients feel comfortable discussing difficult topics. The therapist’s candidness is perceived as a form of support rather than judgment.

  • Active Listening: They listen attentively and validate the client’s experiences, ensuring that their candid feedback is relevant and appropriately timed.

  • Collaborative Approach: They involve the client in the therapeutic process, encouraging self-reflection and mutual understanding. They work with the client to set realistic goals and strategies for improvement.

  • Consistency and Reliability: Their approach is consistent, building trust over time. Clients know they can rely on their therapist to be honest, which fosters a deeper therapeutic relationship.

  • Professional Boundaries: They maintain professional boundaries, ensuring their candor is always in the client’s best interest and not influenced by personal feelings or biases.

Is Compassionately Candid a good fit for me?

Coming from a background in counselor education, Lindsey understands that counseling is not a one-size-fits-all approach, and tailors her approach to meet her clients' specific needs. She prides herself in the trauma-informed, client-centered, holistic, and evidence based care which she provides.

Her highly flexible and adaptable approach incorporates different empirically researched techniques and perspectives as needed to best support each client's evolving needs and goals. She engages in a collaborative approach with clients, with the goal of empowering them to find their own solutions and meaning within their unique contexts. Encouraging clients to explore and question traditional norms and values, her clients work to build their autonomy, authenticity, and discover their purpose.

Research shows that the quality of the relationship between a therapist and client is a key predictor of client progress in counseling. Because of this, Lindsey encourages potential clients to test out their goodness-of-fit with her during a free 15 minute consultation!
